Whimsies

As the “about” page tells it, these come to Gary almost after the fact. A line and or stroke of color is placed on the page and often suggests what the next line or color will be, always in a depiction of one or more people. However, he can also be inspired whimsically by his environment; as one might see figures and faces in bathroom wallpaper, his eye might catch the corner of a screen window or a half-reflection in a mirror and shapes will be seen and a new drawing, a new person, suggested. Or he might be fancying a color—bright orange, let’s say—or a shape—a raised eyebrow-perhaps—and start from that slight preconception.
